About Us
On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon
Low, the founder of Girl Scouting, organized America’s first group of
Girl Scouts in Savannah, Georgia. In 1915, the first Girl Scout troop
in the Metro Detroit area was established. In 1980, Southern
Oakland County and Girl Scouts of Metropolitan Detroit consolidated
into what is now today as Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit – the largest
mentor of girls in the Metro Detroit area, serving most
of Wayne and Oakland Counties. Girl Scouts has thrived throughout the
area for more than 90 years.
Girl Scouts is the largest
volunteer organization for girls in the world. It is a part of a
global family of girls and adults in 144 countries through the
membership of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) in the World Wide
Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Girl Scouting is
open to all girls ages 5 – 17 (or kindergarten through 12th grade),
who subscribe to the ideals of the Girl Scout
Promise and
Law.
